Mark Saberton, Baritone, has an MMus in Advanced Opera from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where he was awarded a RSAMD Trust Prize. He currently studies with Janice Chapman.
Mark has sung with Scottish Opera, Garsington Opera, Opera Holland Park, Mid Wales Opera, Savoy Opera, Diva Opera, Haddo House, Bampton Classical Opera, Opera Project, Broomhill Opera, First Act Opera, Opera Box, Lakeland Opera, Opera Galactica, Opera Omnibus, Opera on a Shoestring, Opera South East, Opus 1 and The Works.
Roles include Escamillo, Carmen, Opera Box, Zurga, Les Pêcheurs des Perles, First Act Opera, Ping, Turandot, Lakeland Opera, Leporello Don Giovanni, First Act Opera, Don Alfonso, Cosi Fan Tutte, British Youth Opera and Rigoletto, Rigoletto, Diva Opera.
With Bampton Classical Opera he has performed the roles of Dromio of Syracuse, Comedy of Errors (Storace), Don Demofonte The Two Barons (Cimarosa), Don Pippo/Bocconio/Bluff The Cairo Goose/The Disillusioned Husband/The Impresario (Mozart), Pasquariello Don Giovanni (Gazzaniga) and the title role in Salieri’s Falstaff.
Other roles include Benoit and Alcindoro, La Bohème, Diva Opera, Opera Theatre Company Ireland, Opus 1 and Opera Project, Pistol, Falstaff, Lockit, Beggar’s Opera (Britten) and Dancairo, Carmen, Harasta, Cunning Little Vixen and Pistol, Falstaff for Opera Project, a critically acclaimed performance of Antonio, The Marriage of Figaro, Savoy Opera where he also covered Doctor Bartolo, The Barber of Seville, Antonio for Garsington Opera and at the Barbican, Narumov and cover of Count Tomsky, Queen of Spades, Opera Holland Park, Krusina, Bartered Bride, Mid Wales Opera, and Schaunard, La Bohème and Angelotti, Tosca, Opus 1. He recently performed the Hotel Waiter, Death in Venice and The Well Dressed Fan and Minder, Playing Away (by Benedict Mason) for the Aldeburgh and Bregenz Festivals.
Mark works regularly with David Owen Norris and The Works with whom he toured Two Murders and a Marriage at the Edinburgh Festival, around the country and in Norway and appeared several times on BBC Radio 3. He has sung in a variety of Oratorios and Recitals throughout the UK and Ireland in works such as, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Brahms Requiem, Handel’s, Messiah and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle to name but a few, and has performed a series of Opera Gala engagements for Silversea Cruises. Mark also works regularly with the Dunedin Consort.
On recording he appears as a solo Janissary on Sir Charles Mackerras’ version of Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
He has recently performed the title role Rigoletto for Kentish Opera.
Mark is currently performing the role of Ben Budge in the Royal Opera’s production of Beggars Opera.
Forthcoming roles for 2009 include Figaro, Barber of Seville for Heritage Opera and Bottom, Midsummer Nights Dream for Opera Project.
