Melanie Lang, mezzo-soprano, was born in America to Austrian parents and raised in England. She recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she completed the MMus Opera Course with distinction and gained a first class BMus (Hons).
Melanie’s operatic experience includes Mistress Quickly, excerpts from Falstaff, Royal Albert Hall, title role Carmen, Swindon Opera, Mazet, La Colombe, (Melanie Lang’s vibrant mezzo and strong stage presence lent depth to Horace’s apprentice Mazet’ Opera Magazine, July 2008), Ernestina L’Occasione fa il ladro and Metella, La Vie Parisienne, GSMD, Florence Albert Herring BdYO, Third Lady Die Zauberflöte Opera Loki and GSMD, and covers and performances of Mrs. Herring Albert Herring BYO, Mistress Quickly Falstaff, Marcellina Le Nozze di Figaro, Duchess A Dinner Engagement, Ermengarde A Long Christmas Dinner and Bianca, La Rondine for BYO
Melanie has also performed excerpts in the following roles: Dalila, Octavian, Cherubino, Dorabella, Lucretia, Hermia, Rosina and Charlotte.
On the concert platform, Melanie has performed Mahler recitals at the Barbican, a recording of Zigeunerleben on The Songs of Robert Schumann Vol. 10 (Hyperion) with Graham Johnson and Peter Grimes at the Salzburg Festival with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle.
Melanie has recently been offered Mercedes Carmen Longborough Festival Opera and Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia Armonico Consort.
Future engagements include Beethoven Symphony No Nine with University College London Chorus and Orchestra and Third Boy and the cover of Third Lady Die Zauberflöte for English Touring Opera Spring 2009 season.
