Catriona Clark was born and educated in Edinburgh gaining a BMus with Distinction at the Ian Tomlin School of Music, Napier University. She was awarded the School of Music Medal for the most outstanding graduate of that year, also winning the Harold Grey singing competition.
Thereafter, as a recipient of a Sir James Caird Scholarship, she studied at the Royal College of Music in London, gaining Distinction in the Advanced Post-graduate Diploma. With scholarships from RSAMD, The Scottish International Trust and the Caird Foundation, Catriona subsequently undertook the Master of Opera Course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Patricia McMahon. In July 2004 she graduated with Distinction.
Whilst at the RSAMD, Catriona performed the roles of Tytania in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Galatea in Handel’s Acis and Galatea, and Le Feu in Ravel’s L’enfant et les Sortileges.
Since then, Catriona has performed the role of Mistress Ford in Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor and Arline, Bohemian Girl for Opera South, Papagena and the cover of Pamina, Die Zauberflöte, Kate Pinkerton, cover of Adina, L’Elisir d’Amore and Zerlina for Diva Opera, Bridesmaid, Der Freischutz at the Edinburgh International Festival conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras, the cover of Semele, the role of Chief Hen, A Cunning Little Vixen for British Youth Opera, Micaëla, Carmen for Edinburgh Grand Opera, the cover of Lady Harriet, Martha with Haddo House, Belinda, Dido and Aeneas, for Vox Musica, Suzel, L’Amico Fritz (Mascagni), for Opera Omnibus, as well as Norina, Don Pasquale, and Lakmé, Lakmé.
Catriona has performed Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s C Minor Mass, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, The Seasons and Creation, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Schubert’s Mass in Bflat, Faure’s Requiem, Poulenc’s and Vivaldi’s Gloria and at the Usher Hall, Handel’s Messiah. She has also has performed for Sir Charles Mackerras on the occasion of his receiving an honorary doctorate at Edinburgh and has sung in concerts and recitals throughout Britain in venues including Glamis Castle, the Royal Yacht Britannia, St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, Hopetoun House, Edinburgh, and a recital in the USA at Green Bryers, Western Virginia and New York City. She is also a regular soloist with the highly acclaimed Locrian Ensemble.
In January 2006 she was a finalist in the Francisco Vinas International Opera Competition, which was held in the Teatro Gran Liceu, Barcelona.
Catriona has recently performed the roles of Susanna, Le Nozze di Figaro, Sandman/Dewfairy, Hänsel and Gretel and Venus, La Belle Hélène for Diva Opera and the roles of Zerlina and Donna Anna in a condensed version of Don Giovanni for English Pocket Opera.
Forthcoming roles include Musetta and Eurydice, Orphée aux Enfers for Diva Opera.
